Sharing to Social Networks
Instagram makes sharing content easier than any other network. You can share your beautifully edited Instagram photos on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Tumblr. There are a few key steps needed to get started. Let’s walk through the process of connecting accounts and sharing posts.
- Open the Instagram app and navigate to your profile.
- Click the gear icon on the top right corner, which will bring you to the profile options.
- Scroll down the options and select the “Linked Accounts” tab.
- Instagram will give you a list of social media accounts to link to your Instagram.
To link Facebook, select the tab and connect your account. If you are logged in to your personal Facebook then it will link to your personal account. This is perfectly fine as long as your personal account has admin access to the Facebook page you want to link. Once your account is connected, click “Share to” in order to select which Facebook page you want to share with.
Sharing a Post
When you want to share a post, you have two options:
- You can share instantaneously with posting on Instagram.
- You can go back to old posts and share at a later time.
To share right away, go ahead and create your post as normal and then on the final screen you will see the option to share on other accounts. Facebook was selected for our Thursday throwback post (below) and is indicated by the blue highlight.
The post on Facebook will contain the exact same text and picture as the one posted on Instagram. If you are posting on Twitter, the photo will not automatically be shown or previewed in the feed. Instead, it will link to your Instagram post, requiring people to make an extra click to see the photo.
To share a post at a later time, go to your profile and select the post you wish to share. In the bottom right corner, there will be three large gray dots. Click those and an options box will pop up (shown above). Choose “Share” and select your preferred platforms.
We highly recommend sharing on Facebook, since the process is so seamless. While Twitter does not automatically show Instagram photos, sharing on Twitter is well worth the little effort it takes to connect the account. Hopefully, those that click your Twitter link will become Instagram followers.
