How to install Android 7.0 on your Smartphone?

Those who have a Smartphone or a tablet Nexus have the chance to benefit, before others, the new versions of Android. A logical first on the part of Google, but which does not unfold itself in an equitable way according to the models and the geographical zones. For the most impatient, here is how to install the latest version of Android, to date, the 7.0 – alias Nougat.

To reduce the unbearable wait of the random deployment of new versions of Android – the owners of Nexus can be demanding in this matter – there are two methods to speed things up. The first, simplest, is to register for Android Beta program to receive updates OTA ( Over The Air, that is to say, pushed from Google servers directly to your mobile) before other. The second is to manually install the ROM (the operating system) on his Smartphone. A relatively simple procedure provided it is followed exactly.

Subscribe to Android Beta

The beta program for Android is designed to allow developers access to develop preview quickly and simply (OTA so). The interest for the typical person is that Google is also pushing the final version of its new OS grinds on that channel when the ROM is made available for download on the website of the Factory Images. This is a simple way to be up to date on Android 7.0, without having to watch out for the publication of ROMs.

To register for Android Beta program is simple: you only have to go on www.google.com/android/beta and identify with the main account of the Android device you want to update. Updates will then be suggested to push as soon as available.

Installing ROM manually

Handling requires scrupulous follow-up of steps, but it helps to learn and understand the procedure in detail. Before embarking on the installation, it is necessary to undertake a whole series of preparations.

To get into legs, we will have to download two important elements:

The ROM for your device;

The Android SDK.

 1) Prepare the image of Android:

In the example we follow, the Nexus 6 we want to update. We will upload the file shamu-nbd90z-factory-92e7bb05.zip corresponding to the build NBD90Z Android 7.0.0 of our equipment.

 2) Install SDK

Stage, install and update the SDK (development kit). To do this, first extract the downloaded archive to an “Android SDK” folder that you have previously created in the root of C: for example. Then run “SDK Manager.exe” and check a minimum:

Android SDK Tools

Android SDK Platform-tools

API 24

Google USB Driver

3) Enable USB Debugging Mode:

We’re almost ready to get into the thick of it. Nevertheless, it must set the USB connection on the Smartphone USB Debugging. To this end, go to Settings> About Phone and tap the checkbox Build number until the phone informs you that you are now a developer. Back one level back, and going this time in the new menu options for developers. This is where you will find the USB Debugging. Once activated, connect your device to the computer.

Small control to see if everything goes as planned: make a “Windows key + X” and go to the Device Manager. Top of the list must be Android Device> Android Composite ADB Interface, and without an exclamation point. If Windows detects a worry, download the USB drivers of Google; right click on Android Composite ADB Interface to request a driver update. Locate on the computer and point to downloaded USB drivers (after extracting them from the archive).

The installation of the new ROM

We will be able to proceed with the relocation. Turn off your Smartphone while leaving the connected USB to debug mode on the computer, then restart mode Bootloader / Fast boot by pressing the volume and less power for a few seconds.

On the computer, open the explorer window to where you copied the seven files from Android 7.0 system (on file Platform-tools Android SDK). Right-click in a blank area by holding down the Shift key and launch a command window. Warning: all your data will be erased! So remember to make a backup of your device before beginning.

Type these lines in succession:

Fast boot reboot-boot loader

Fast boot reboot-boot loader

Fast boot flash system.img

Fast boot reboot-boot loader

Fast boot flash user data userdata.img

Fast boot flash recovery.img

Fast boot flash boot boot.img

Fast boot erase cache

Fast boot flash cache.img

And there, it is folded, there is only to restart your terminal! Note that all these control lines can be automated by double-clicking the file flash all.bat contained in the same folder as the Nexus of an image you have recovered. It should simply be copied to the other seven ROM files in the “Platform-tools” folder. But we find that it is good to conduct these stages one by one, we are surer of the result.
